Statehouse Lake Trail Geo-Hike

Statehouse Lake at the Discovery Center is a well-studied seepage lake that shows diverse lake and lake-margin ecosystems.  This hike will examine the influence of the glacial geology of the area in context of the lake’s rich biota.  Statehouse Lake is positioned downdip of the Winegar Moraine on glacial outwash sediments developed on an earlier glacial advance.  The diversity of these outwash sediments controls surface and subsurface water flow that ultimately determines soil type and the habitats around the lake.  Registered participants will walk the 2.5 mile Statehouse Lake Loop with stops at key localities. Registration required by 8/11.  $25 ($20 members).
