Location
Description
This hike has been canceled due to poor trail conditions and weather.
In addition to their natural beauty, the waterfalls and scenic overlooks along the southern Lake Superior margin expose rocks that range in age from 1.0 to over 2.2 billion years old. The bedrock is well exposed in many localities due to widespread erosion from the last glacial advance. Field trip stops will show the strong influence of geology on the development of Superior Falls and Potato Falls. An additional stop at Coorigans Overlook shows glacially scoured pillow lavas erupted in an ancient sea. This trip is rated moderately strenuous to strenuous, due to terrain around fall accessibility.
Our group will ride in a Discovery Center van. Registered participants will be sent instructions and a list of what to bring prior to the trip. Pre-register by 4/27. Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm. $50/Member and $60/Non-Member
