Description

Create a pattern, then Dye 4 Cloth Napkins or 4 Fat Quarters-(100% White Cotton preferred) AND bring a garment or 2 to Snow/Ice Dye (could bring 2 additional napkins or fat quarters if you prefer!)

If you are a quilter looking for an additional way to create your own fabric; or someone who would like to use and design your own cloth napkins, then this is the class for you! Participants will draw, stamp, or stencil a pattern onto their napkins or fat quarters using a special dye attractant. After the dye attractant dries they will scrunch dye their cloth in color(s) of their choice. Wherever the attractant was applied, the dye will be darker! No dyeing experience necessary.

Class fee includes all dyes and chemicals needed to dye 4 napkins or 4 fat quarters. Instructor will also bring many of the supplies needed.

Participants will bring their own white fabric or white napkins to dye, plus a roll of masking tape; and if possible, a hair dryer. All fabric should be pre-washed in order to remove any residues. If participants wish to purchase fabric or napkins from instructor, they may do so for $2 per fat quarter or napkin by contacting instructor ahead of time! Plastic containers (zip-loc style or recycled food containers like coolwhip, etc) will be needed for each fabric piece or napkin to fit snugly into (but flat) when scrunched up tightly; plus a large plastic dishpan, (or larger) plastic container.

We will also take advantage of the snow (or we may use ice) to create unique, colorful fabric fat quarters or garments! Participants will bring their own 100% natural fiber fabric (fat quarters) (cotton, silk, rayon, or linen- in white or light solids) and/or garments to dye. Participants should be able to dye approximately 2 pieces. Scarves, baby garments, unique shirts, etc. would all be suitable for this class. Plastic containers (zip-loc style or recycled food containers like cool whip, etc.) will be needed for each fabric piece or garment to fit snugly into (but flat) when scrunched up tightly; plus a large plastic dishpan, (or larger) plastic container.

Please bring all fabrics, garments and containers to the class, along with a roll of aluminum foil and a bucket to collect snow in! The plastic dishpan style container will need to hold your flat, but scrunched up garment(s) with snow and dye on top to travel home in your car safely!

All chemicals, dyes, resists and other supplies will be provided. White 100% cotton fat quarters will be available to purchase from instructor. Bring a dust mask if you wish.

 Registration due by 1/3.  $55 ($45 members)
