Old Growth Hikes with John Bates Series: Oneida County-Germain Hemlocks SNA

Meet John Bates at this beautiful site on an informative old growth hike.  Situated between Long, Corner, and Tyler Lakes, Germain Hemlocks supports old-growth northern mesic forest dominated by large hemlocks with supercanopy white and red pines. With numerous large standing snags, an abundance of coarse woody debris covering the forest floor, and scattered but good reproduction of hemlock, the site contains most of the attributes one looks for in an old-growth stand, except for large acreage.  We will walk at a moderate pace, stopping often to look at different plants and birds that interest us. Total hike distance will be about 2 miles.  Registered participants will receive an email with directions along with what to bring. Pre-register by 7/21.  Limited space available.  $45/person.
