Description

Headwater Lakes State Natural Area features two unique soft-water lakes, Wabasso Lake and Cedar Lake. Join Naturalist and Author John Bates as we paddle Wabasso Lake, a 49-acre very clear, deep, seepage lake with a diverse and unusual aquatic flora, including a boggy shoreline comprised of many
carnivorous plant species. As time permits, we’ll also walk the portage trail without our boats to Cedar Lake in order to see a small grove of old-growth white pines. Wabasso Lake has a tiny campground where we hopefully can find an open shoreline campsite to sit and enjoy a view of this wild, undeveloped lake
for lunch. This site is also recognized by the U.S. Forest Service as an established federal Research Natural Area. This program is sponsored by the Tom and Barbara Olson Education Fund. Participants are required to wear facemasks and PFDs for this program.
