Description
Along the bank of the Manitowish River, on June 21, 1933 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) established the 660th Company S-79 or Camp Mercer. Explore the CCC camp's significant impact on the town of Manitowish Waters and the surrounding area, with local historian, Jim Bokern. The
contributions of the CCC men helped define our region by protecting and preserving the Northwoods’ natural resources, and transformed a cutover, fire-ravaged landscape into a forest again. Join us for an evening of delicious nibbles and expanding your knowledge. Donation bar and complimentary
appetizers and desserts from 5 - 6 pm, program from 6 - 7 pm. Register by 10/7. $17 ($14 members), $20 at the door. (V) Thursday, 5 - 7 pm.
