Description

In years when Lake Superior is covered with ice, thousands of visitors walk across the frozen lake to marvel at the ice caves in the park's mainland unit.  Though this activity has never been more popular, the amount of ice on Lake Superior has decreased markedly in recent years and the ice caves have only been accessible in two winters since 2010.  Neil Howk, Apostle Isalnds National Lakeshore's Assistant Chief of Interpretation, will explain the geology of the sea caves, formation of the ice, and describe National Park Service efforts to administer the unprecendented winter visitation inspired by the ice caves.  An evening of delicious nibbles and expanding your knowledge.  Appetizers and refreshments from 5-6pm, program from 6-7pm. Pre-registration required by 12/06.  Program held at Camp Jorn YMCA.  Thursday, 5pm-7pm $13 ($10 Members).

To get to get to Camp Jorn, take Highway 51 and turn onto Highway W.  After about a mile on Highway W (just past the Discovery Center), turn right on Highway K.  Go almost a mile, and turn right on Red Feather Road.  Camp Jorn is on the righthand side of Red Feather Road just after you turn.
