Description

In addition to their natural beauty, the waterfalls and scenic overlooks along the southern Lake Superior margin expose rocks that range in age from 1.0 to over 2.2 billion years old.  The bedrock is well exposed in many localities due to widespread erosion from the last glacial advance.  Field trip stops will show the strong influence of geology on the development of Superior Falls and Foster Falls.  An additional stop at Coorigans Overlook shows glacially scoured pillow lavas erupted in an ancient sea.  This trip is rated moderately strenuous to strenuous, due to terrain around fall accessibility.  Our hope is to all travel together in our van, but if that is not deemed safe, we will conduct the trip caravan-style, with participants following DC staff to locations in their own vehicles.  Registered participants will be sent instructions and a list of what to bring prior to the trip.  Registration required by 9/27.  $55 ($50 members).

**Please bring a facial covering to wear when we cannot be socially distant from one another**   Please read our program and event registration and cancellation policy here.
